Terms of Service
Last updated: August 23, 2026
By using STR Watch ("the service") you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service.
1. What this service does
STR Watch monitors publicly available data from the City of San Diego about short-term rental (STRO) licenses and related complaints. Members add addresses to a watchlist and receive email notifications when license changes, new complaints, status updates, or renewal deadlines affect those addresses. The free address-check tool at /check lets non-members look up a single address.
2. Data source and accuracy
- All license and complaint data comes from the City of San Diego Open Data Portal. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the City.
- The city publishes on its own schedule. We pull every 15 minutes, but the city may take hours or days to publish a complaint after it's filed.
- We make no guarantee that data shown here is current, complete, or accurate. Do not rely on this service as your sole source of truth for license, compliance, or legal decisions. Verify against the City of San Diego directly for anything official.
- We make no guarantee that alerts will be delivered. Email providers block, delay, or misroute messages. Our infrastructure can fail. Check your watchlist directly if you need certainty.
3. Not legal advice
Nothing here — alerts, results, dashboard information — constitutes legal advice. Consult a licensed attorney for legal questions.
4. Acceptable use
You agree you will not use this service to:
- Harass, stalk, threaten, or harm anyone whose name, address, or contact information appears in the data.
- Identify, locate, or retaliate against anyone who filed a complaint with the City. Complaints are anonymous by city policy. We don't provide complainant identity; attempts to circumvent that anonymity are prohibited.
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute the data in bulk outside ordinary personal use.
- Access other users' accounts, circumvent authentication, or interfere with service operation.
- Use the service for any purpose illegal under federal, California, or San Diego law.
We may terminate accounts that violate these rules without notice or refund.
5. Account and authentication
Accounts are secured by magic-link email authentication. You are responsible for the security of your email account.
6. Payments
The service is currently free during development. When paid plans launch, pricing and terms will be presented at checkout. Payments will be processed by Stripe. Refund policy will be published alongside pricing.
7. Termination
You can delete your account any time by emailing privacy@str.watch. We may terminate accounts for violating these terms. On termination, we delete your data within 14 days.
8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for damages arising from use of or inability to use the service — including missed alerts, incorrect data, lost income, or legal penalties. In no event will our aggregate liability exceed the amount you've paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be emailed to the address on your account. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
10. Governing law
Governed by California law (excluding conflict-of-law principles). Disputes resolved in the state or federal courts of San Diego County, California.
